Pet Cemetary
As I’ve mentioned before, we used to live on a big ranch. We had a lot of pets over the years. A lot of pets. Our ranch had the nickname of ”The Vortex”. It was where innocent animals came to die. If you were not human, you never escaped! We had sooo many pets. Poor things. We loved all our pets dearly, well, most of them. But for some reason, no matter how well we took care of them, they could not survive. Below is a list of all the pets I can remember, their species, and COD. (That’s Cause Of Death for all you non-CSI fans.)
Jonsie-Cat-Disapeared
Josie’s kittens-Cat- Shot.
Milo-Cat-Disapeared.
Fluffy-Cat- Ran over by tractor.
Grayie-Cat- Ran over by lawn mower.
Grayie 2-Cat- Still lives, maybe. This cat became wild and took care of itself. It didn’t have much contact with our family, and I believe that’s what cause it’s longevity.
Lucky-Cat-Attacked by some creature.
Lucky 2-Cat-Squished by vehicle.
Arnold-Cat- Was backed over by the van two days after we had him.
Spice-Cat- My favorite of all the pets. Lucky thing ran away before we accidentally murdered it.
Powder Puff-Cat- Was eaten by Bear.
Dog-Cat- Was attacked and killed by some sort of animal after getting fixed the very day before. Was still recovering from the surgery and couldn’t fight back.
Cider & Quirky-Cats- Drowned.
Picky Picky-Cat- Still lives, probably. Another stray who knew better to keep their distance from us. Was Fussy’s Brother.
Fussy-Cat- Died the very night we got her. Was run over by a car.
Smokey & The Bandit-Cats- Both live. We mercifully gave them away.
Stranger-Dog-Old Age, our very first dog. He just wandered off one day and died. He actually lived quite a while.
Dandy-Dog- Lived for 9 years. Finally died of old age. The reason for her long life is Dandy didn’t just have one home. She would run off for months at a time to her other family somewhere, then come back. Was a great dog did all sorts of tricks.
Humphrey-Dog- UPS man ran him over after delivering a package. UPS man was also a youth pastor, and said a prayer over the dog after he hit it.
Moe-Dog-Pound
Echo-Dog- Was given away because he was mean to Gus & Woody. Might be alive?
Sadie-Dog- We rescued her from the canal. Nursed her back to health, she later almost drowned in the pond, and we had to rescue her again. We believe she was trying to commit suicide. Eventually just killed over in the back yard.
Shilo-Dog- Was taken to the pound because she would eat the cables that ran from our satellite dish into the house
Lover-Dog-Pound
Patch-Dog- Was taken to the pound, because he bit me three times, and another person who come over to our house.
Bear-Dog- After killing my cat Powder Puff. Dad got out the shotgun, and was going to shoot him, but my brother begged and pleaded that wouldn’t. So Bear wasn’t shot, he was taken for a car ride and dropped off somewhere far away. I thought my Dad secretly took him away and shot him, but Bear showed up again a few days later. Dad then took him to the pound.
Bear’s Brother-Dog- A stray that showed up around the same time Bear did. He looked like bear so he was named Bear’s Brother. Wondered off somewhere, never to be seen again.
Playful & Precious-Dogs- Puppies we found and rescued alongside the road. They lived with us before being taken to the pound.
Gus & Woody-Dogs- Called Gus & Woody for short, Augustus and Woodrow were two Weimaraners Woody got sick and died. Gus repeatedly ran away, and we had to go find him. Finally, he never came back.
Gunther-Dog- Died because his heart finally gave out. Was Simba’s brother.
Color-Turkey- I watched in horror as Echo ate my poor little baby turkey.
Goble-Turkey- Was given away to a family we knew. They raised him well, until he was grown and then eaten.
F.B.-Rabbit- Shot for fur ball. Some sort of cat attacked him, while he was still in his cage. He couldn’t escape.
Pono-Mouse- Escaped and ran away. He still lives, now sporting an eye patch and a few scars from his many battles in the wild.
Dutchess-Mouse- Just died.
Diablo-Mouse- Wen’t missing. Mom finally sniffed out his dead carcass.
Brownie- Climbed into his water feeder head first and drowned.
Tiny- Was killed by Brownie.
Elizabeth-Fish-
Taylor’s Fish-
Gill-Fish- Granny cleaned his bowl one day, but didn’t rinse it our very good so it was poisoned by the cleaner.
Taylor’s Crab- Died while on vacation. Probably starved or died of dehydration. It smelled something fierce once we got back.
Le Pew- Fried
Duck 1-Drowned
Duck 2- Drowned
Pets who either didn’t have names, or I just can’t remember them:
Squirrel- Escaped
Crow- Just Died
2nd Crow- Taylor thought it was well enough to fly. Took him outside released him. He fell to the ground and the dog attacked
Bird that wasn’t one of the crows- Same thing that happened to the previous pet.
Numerous amounts of Toads, Frogs, Snakes, Bugs, and Lizards- Various COD’s
Rooster- Dad shot it after it bit me.
Several Jack Rabbits- Again various COD’s.
Gofers- Some of them died. Some of them were released.
Many a Goldfish- Many a flushing.
Our 2 current pets are:
Simba- Gunther’s sister. Still lives after 6 years of having her. YAY!
Turtle- Just found him. Hasn’t been named yet, any suggestions?

Your pet memory far exceeds mine. I had completely forgotten some of those.
Our place was a death chamber.
I've been calling our turtle, Ross, but you guys don't seem to like it.
We need to have a family vote.
Taylor doesn't want to give him/her a name at all.
We MUST name it, so we know what to put on its grave marker.

Courty you could call it SHELLy. Of course it may not live long enough to learn its name. Also you could teach it some 'dumb turtle tricks', like how far can it stretch it's neck and how many times can it roll over. You know they're very smart............when they're closed up in that shell they aren't just sleeping they're thinking up all the things they can do................to make their owner happy. What other tricks do you think you can teach it?

I aquired -- temporarily I hope -- two large turtles yesterday. My daughter brought them home from college when she came for her birthday party. She's had them for years but can't keep them any more. They are an exotic species so we can't just turn them loose in the woods. My job is to find them a new home. There's this restaurant just down the road where... Humm.

Seams like Dogs have the best chance with you guys. They seam to be the most likely to die of old age or get transplanted someplace else. That is provided by pound you mean you took them to one and not that you dropped a safe on their heads. I'm not sure after reading that post.
Name the turtle contest eh? How about fate. Or given the amount of pets the dogs killed off maybe you could name it Yummy. Or Crunch for that matter.
My all time favorite names were for a set of cats my uncle in law has. Chaos and Bogus.

Good name for a turtle in your home: Sitting Duck.
Man, does the ASPCA know about your vortex? Wild. I grew up on a farm so we had some cats, a poodle who once got bitten on the side by something large (I don't know what), and the occasional wandering stray dog who was sent packing. Did once have some kittens born in the garage that managed to get into my father's tacklebox (hey, smelled like fish!) and two got fish-hooks in their mouths. One died of infection about a week later, the other lived a happy life minus her left eye.

I'd heard this grisly story over at your mom's blog.
I wish you better luck with Simba & Turtle :)
Over my growing up years my family went through 3 rabbits, a white mouse and 2 dogs. But none of them were nearly as exciting as yours. ;)

Your family really doesn't sound like they should have anymore animal. The disposability and irresponsibility astounds me.
